A Spiritual Exercise

Last week I attended the Zoe Leadership Conference in Nashville. One of the speakers (at this point I can’t even remember who it was) suggested an exercise that caught my attention.

“Start identifying areas in your life where grace has not yet taken hold.”

This week I got to work on this spiritual exercise and quickly identified a number of such areas in my life. I hope I will allow this to be an ongoing process – identifying more areas as time goes on. But for now and the near future, I have decided to concentrate on one particular area which I identified.

While I do not want to share with everyone the specific area of my life I am talking about, trust me, I have my hands full. I have shared this with an accountability partner who will provide support as I seek God, asking for His grace to take hold. At the same time, my accountability partner has my permission to call me out whenever necessary. Spiritual growth is highly unlikely if you handcuff those around you so they can never challenge you.

Would you join me on this journey? Would you start identifying areas in your life where grace has not yet taken hold? Would you target one of those areas for specific changes? Would you join me in this spiritual exercise that I hope will lead to spiritual formation in the image of God? Would you share this journey with an accountability partner who you invite to both encourage and correct you?

May God be glorified as we allow Him control over our lives!
