The Senility Prayer

Guess what my wife received in the mail this week? Her AARP card! After we shared a good laugh I had to prevent her from throwing that thing in the trash. When I told her about all the good discounts associated with the card she decided to keep it.

Every day we are getting older. I guess I should come clean and confess that my card will probably be arriving in the mailbox in the next couple of months. I would like to thank my friend (who will remain nameless) for sharing with me a prayer that might prove helpful to Lourene and I as we enter into the AARP years — The Senility Prayer.

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
